58.008 Pieris napi (Green-veined White)
ws: 40-52mm; bivoltine - Apr-Jun, Jul-Aug; various Brassicaceae; common throughout GB
ID: Distinguished from similar species, notably P.rapae (Small White), by the pattern of grey-green scales bordering the veins of the hindwing underside. The veins of the forewing upperside are marked with grey scales in both sexes of the second generation and in females, but not males, of the first generation. Males of the second generation have a single black forewing upperside spot; this spot may be indicated faintly or absent in the first generation male. Females of the second generation have two black spots and a mid-dorsal black streak on the forewing upperside; these markings being much less distinct in females of the first generation.
