Family: Onagraceae Juss.
Distribution: All Europe, Macaronesia, Asia (up to Japan), Northern America, Greenland.
Ecology: Grows in woodland clearings, on margins of woods and on wasteland. Flowers from June to September.
Description: Perennial herb, 50–200 cm high, erect stems, usually unbranched, leaves oblong-lanceolate to linear-lanceolate. Flowers in long racemes, petals 4, obovate, 1–2 cm long, rose-purple, rarely whitish. The fruit is a long capsule.
Note: The leaves are used medicinally.
