FREYWILLE

Barcelona’s Art Noveau

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Barcelona experienced a notable economic boom as a result of the 1888 Universal Exhibition. The new momentum generated by the event brought with it winds of change from Europe in the form of the art nouveau movement, which in Catalonia, and in Barcelona in particular, became known as modernisme.

Modernisme had a great impact on the society of the time and has left its legacy in different art forms, including architecture and enamel decorations, which you’ll find all around the Catalan capital. For lovers of this artistic movement, and art in general, FREYWILLE brings you beautiful creations with art nouveau motifs from the collections Hommage à Alphonse Mucha and Hommage à Gustav Klimt.

Gustav Klimt (1862-1918), the Austrian artist who produced famous paintings such as “The Kiss” and the portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer, was one of the linchpins of the European modern style. Alphonse Mucha (1860 – 1939) was a famous Czech painter and decorative artist who was a key member of the art nouveau movement and renowned for his unique, highly symbolic and decorative style. The FREYWILLE collection Hommage à Alphonse Mucha was inspired by the artist’s distinctive art-nouveau spirals. The Sarah Bernhardt design has been made in two colour palettes. You can find all the collections at the FREYWILLE boutique at 106, Passeig de Gràcia, which resembles a small gallery of works of art that have been transformed into jewels.
