Aconite - Wolfsbane, aconitum napellus

Known by many names; aconite, wolfsbane and monkshood, aconitum napellus is a magical plant most commonly used in the Wolfsbane potion. Aconite gains the well known common name wolfsbane from muggle history, where it was used to poison bait for wolves in Germany, Russia and France.

Aconite belongs to the buttercup family ranuncalaecae. Small doses of this plant can lower blood pressure, but the plant is highly toxic and very seldom used for medicinal purposes. Aconite is poison to witches and wizards, but it is also one of the few known substances that is toxic to werewolves. In small amounts brewed correctly, aconite can help calm the animalistic side of the werewolf during the night of the full moon.
