[Felt Lichens: The Genus Peltigera in the Columbia River Gorge of Oregon and Washington]

Felt Lichen

Peltigera collina

Synonym: Peltigera scutata

Felt Lichen: Peltigera collina (Synonym: Peltigera scutata)

What may be Peltigera collina as seen along the Oneonta Trail #424 downstream of Triple Falls in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area..........February 1, 2010. Because of the hint of dark green coloration, this could be Peltigera malacea. This latter species has (or lacks) faint venation on the lower surface of the thalus while the former has low, brownish venation, or occasionally lacks the vention, so I need to return to determine which this is. An example of Peltigera membranacea is present at lower right.

Felt Lichen: Peltigera collina (Synonym: Peltigera scutata)

What appears to be Peltigera collina on a Oregon white oak (Quercus garryana) branch in mixed oak-conifer forest along the old Champion Lumber Company Road several miles downstream of Leidl Park along the west bank of the Klickitat River (Klickitat Wildlife Area lands)............May 15, 2013.
