Cortinarius traganus (Fr.) Fr. (1838)                                 *Collections: Western North America

Cortinarius traganus is one of the classic species in the genus and also one of the easiest to id correctly. The fruity odor matched by the bluish/lilac coloration and ocherish context make it very easy to pinpoint in the field. The North American and European collections seem to match quite well in macro and micro morphology. The primary habitat of this species are conifer forests.
